Shower

We are liveaboards and have a beautiful Formica lined shower with wood bench and tile floor. The shower drain pumps overboard via a whale gulper shower pump. After showering, we squeegee it dry and then spray with a bleach-water mist to keep mildew at bay. But it doesn’t actually clean the shower. What can I use to make it shiney clean without ruining my plumbing or polluting the ocean?

Re: Shower

Well, I don't know about potential impact on your plumbing, but my wife uses a White Vinegar solution for all of her environmentally friendly cleaning. It is great for water spots and the like, but be aware the the core ingredient of vinegar is acetic acid. In dilute form, you can eat the stuff. Just avoid concentrated forms.

Incidentally, you can also use white vinegar to clean up uncured epoxy. Of course, concentrated acetic acid can actually break down cement. The Romans used to use it to demolish the buildings of the conquered.

Re: Shower

we are live-aboards with a similar cat / similar shower

like you we squeegee down after each shower and frankly don't have any mould problems to speak of.

when we do, quick clean with exit mold or such is all that's needed.

in some spots (where won't wash off) the owner hit's it with a solution of vinegar & oil of cloves which seems to work pretty well as a preventative (smells nice too !)

cheers,
