Shipping to Carribean

We are over wintering in the East Carribean. I need to send myself some gear, it’s accumulating at SBI awaiting my instructions.

What’s the best place to ship and how?
I’ve been told St Martin, just to confirm French side?
What carrier, no more than 50 pounds.
What receiving address? Or just General Delivery?

Re: Shipping to Carribean

We ordered some stuff several times while sailing. It wasn’t any problems. In Grenada we used FedEx with their address and with notice “hold in FedEx location”. It’s better to write vessel name when send the package. In this case you avoid custom fee if the boat is in transit. Also we sent something while visiting St.Thomas. That time we used a small mailing company that provides an address for 30$/month. There won’t be any problem with postal services in St.Martin as well.

Call them at SBI, I bet they have done it a couple of times and know what’s fastest, what’s best, and what’s cheapest, you pick which is most important.

Re: Shipping to Carribean

I did that last year in the Bahamas and, perhaps I just got a new or disinterested person but, the answer was “The destination and means of delivery are the customers choice.”

I was a bit suprised. But I’ll try again.

Re: Shipping to Carribean

Think I found my answer on Noonsite

Four Star Cargo - alongside the airport on the way to Maho - can have anything shipped to their address in Miami and they will automatically have it sent by cargo ship or air (your choice) to their warehouse in St. Maarten. Free to open an account, you pay the shipping fees when you pick up your package. They will also deliver island-wide.

Re: Shipping to Carribean

Here is the response I got from SBI.

Quote:
We can ship via any of the couriers, DHL, FedEx, it would be best to check with the locals to see what they feel is the best. Both of these can be quite expensive, running about $70.00 for the 1st pound of mail.

We can ship to the Four Star Cargo via UPS ground ( a reasonably priced service stateside). You would have to make the prior arrangements with them to forward onto you.
