There is much debate about everything on here.
But I thought it was a fun watch. Ending was a little abrupt.

I agree. But the "old fuddy duddies" do exist.

Re: good boat movies?

"All is Lost"? I added the question mark because we won't be viewing this new Robert Redford movie until 1:30 today. But, based on what I've read, it should be a good one. And quite the departure for most movies. One character and hardly any dialog. Should be interesting. I'll let you know in a few hours how I feel about it.

Fairly recent ones. Sea Wolf, the newer Treasure Island, and 2012 Kon Tiki, 180 degree South...

Swiss Family Robinson

They've already been mentioned but 180 Degrees South and Hold Fast are two of my favorites.

Re: good boat movies?

My wife and I saw "All is Lost" yesterday. It's a Robert Redford movie, not a documentary on how to survive a collision at sea. Lots of silly stuff that no sane, experienced sailor would do. But, maybe that was the point.

Re: good boat movies?

For those who greatly enjoyed (as I did) the "Deep Water" doco, the following two books should also make for fascinating reading:

Peter Nichols: A Voyage for Madmen (first publ. 2001)
Extremely well done account of how all nine participants in the first around the world non-stop single-handed race fared

Nicholas Tomalin/Ron Hall: The Strange Last Voyage of Donald Crowhurst (first publ. 1970)
Lets you get deep into the mind of probably the most "out there" competitor, maybe even a bit too deep at the end for comfort...
