Statistically August is the best month overall for this trip, particularly in a
motor vessel, but that's statistics. And those are based on past climate realities. Last year October was a great month for the trip.
Winter was delayed on the
west coast and most systems got trapped in the Gulf of
Alaska. Northern
California had the warmest October on
record and zero rainfall the entire month (rain comes with the fall systems rolling in). This year has been a little unusual in the
PNW, who knows what October will bring?
If you want to go this October
avoid having a schedule (this is true of pretty much any
boating venture). Watch the forecasts, go when it's good, hang out someplace when it's not. There are usually a fair number of decent weeks in October/November/December (statistically
), but if you force yourself to move outside those good weeks....
