Since April, my local
San Diego West Marine store has been operating like gangbusters.
Electronics sales,
small boat stuff,
fishing gear, and
maintenance stuff all seem to be going out the door in brisk fashion. The same for
San Diego Marine Exchange and its affiliates, Sailing Supply and Downwind Marine. Maybe San Diego is the "miner's canary" of the resurging economy. My personal
income, as a
boat repair guy and
electronics installer, is following this trend. One has to remember that a smart store manager balances inventory with ability to fulfill orders. If they don't have it in stock, the hub van delivers it the next day. I keep reminding myself of the old adage: "The doctor must survive". If my suppliers don't make it, I certainly won't. That they are able to respond in a timely manner, keeps me employed and happy. If they stock stuff that doesn't move, they lose
money and they die. What's the option in this
current economy?
