I have a Kawasaki 1100 Jet Ski that I use as a dinghy.
Safe, fast, and dry (relatively)
And...Fast enough to get groceries back to my boat before the ice cream melts.
It tows easily behind my sailboat.
And as much fun as you can have with your clothes on.
I have ridden them in the past and done so with respect to other boaters & swimmers.

As a boater & diver, personally dislike them. I don't know why but they do seem to bring out bad behavior .

I have tired of trying to explain to 16 year old's (some of them in their 50's) that those dive floats are NOT a slalom course put there for their pleasure.....

I agree 110%
Like any powerful and fast machine, like a car or aircraft, the driving must be responsible and SAFE.

And like a car, training and experience is necessary before just turning the keys over to a teenager, or anyone else for the first time.

Responsibly and safely driven, and with consideration of the enjoyment of other boaters and assets, they are safe, and fun.

Unfortunately we have no mechanism for keeping the idiots off of those powerful and fast machines.

It also seems that many otherwise responsible adults turn into teenagers when they climb on a jetski. Not the machines fault but like many other annoyances, bad behavior by part of the group paints a bad image for the whole group.

As a whole, I do not like being around them.

Again...I agree.

But...Not all Jet Ski drivers are idiot krazy drivers.

Why not put on your HappyHat and try driving one?
You might be converted.

Re: Best kind of Jet Ski

I've always been concerned that one might become tangled in the 20lb monofilament with a 2oz sinker attached while i'm casting from my moored boat.

Sorry, I thought I had mentioned in my first post that I have ridden them and still do not care for them. I may have mentioned in my second post that bad behavior by a few can result in a bad image for the whole group.

I like the "Nautical no-see-ums!" description

I suppose that is possible.

But remember that they are powered by an internal impeller in an enclosed water jet, not an external propellor. I would think it is hard to get tangled in fishing line weighted down with a sinker. And they definitely should not be operating a Jet Ski that close to your boat except at idle speed.

Again....Drive responsibly.

Bit off topic, but that reminds me of one particular dive I had an idiot pull his 50'+ boat right up to my diver down float/flag and drop his anchor 10' from me & my buddy.

He proceeded to drop a number of brand new crab traps. They still had the price tags on them.

He must not have been much of a mariner or boy scout because the knots on every one of his crab traps came untied.

When we came up from that dive we watched the dive boat captain giving the idiot holy heck at high volume.

OK Steve.
At least you have tried one.
I agree that the bad act of a few can taint the perception of the rest of a group.

And...They may be "No-see-ums", but they are definitely NOT
"No-hear-ums". LOL

I too, am a SCUBA diver, and would have been unhappy had an anchor and traps been dropped on my marked position. I even believe that this is illegal.

I can just imagine how the trap lines became "accidently untied".

So you are in favour of Jet Skis being well armed?
