Grey-flanked Cinclodes, Caleta Olla, TdF, 21st April '08.
They are 'confiding' ie not fussed about being close to humans.

Thats interesting, first time Ive ever seen a raptor on a sailboat.

We have a variety of Caracara here in Panama too...just not common for them to land on boats!

Its uncommon in Chile for them **not** to land on boats

Bit of folklore in the south is that if you are heading down to the Antarctic peninsula you hang a few legs of lamb in the rigging to let them age... maybe the salt spray crossing the Drake is good for them.

What people forget is that in Puerto Williams in January day time temps get up to about 20*C

This was a charter boat in 2006 .... crew was working on the foredeck for an hour or more... when one came aft to get a tool or whatever this fellow didn't fly away.... just hid behind the meat....

Southern Crested Caracaras.
Second pic is on my boat cupla years ago.. both on Nikons...

Re: Any Photographers with DSLR's Around ?

(Not a good pic, just a cell phone snap, but I will try and get out for some better pics tomorrow)

Tallships in Bocas. There are 3 tallships in Bocas now. If you zoom in and pan around you can see all three. There is a 4th boat to the far left of frame that looks sorta like a tallship, but doesnt qualify ...its just a tourist boat.Click image for larger version

As raptors you would think the meat would interest them, but maybe they only like live prey.

Re: Any Photographers with DSLR's Around ?

Masked Booby,
Taken between Antofagasta, Chile and the Tuamotos.
Not 'confiding' but very curious.

First is quite heavily cropped and a bit 'soft'..... second just straightened and tidied up.

D90, zoom at 33mm... 1/500th for the first.
55mm at 1/400 for the second.
