Re: what gun should i use as an anchor while deciding between a mono and cat?

Our countertops were epoxy. They had yellowed (well, they were yellow to begin with) and had developed several large cracks. I discovered that it was a layer of 1/4" (approx) epoxy over a very light weight honeycombed wood material. After the stainless steel guy and the corian/formica guy walked away with discouraged look I decided to do it myself.

I used a Home Depot flooring product that looks like stone tile. TrafficMaster "Ceramica" . 18 hours labor and about $40 materials.

I hope the pics come out. . .

+3 for corian. Much easier to work with, better counter surface, easy to replace.

wanna talk about guns and anchors now?
That is all hot air. And we know hot air is a component of global warming.

Re: what gun should i use as an anchor while deciding between a mono and cat?

there is no doubt that corian is easy to work with, affordable and looks decent and i had considered it.

i often struggle with remembering that my boat is not my house where i would never consider adding corian to the 40k dollar kitchen or 12k dollar bathroom.

i am conditioned to jump to custom solutions and believe ;there is always a way' so... when staring at the galley and think, if only concrete were not so heavy... it came to me that lam res and 206 has about the same consistency of concrete.

building the form, pouring out the resin for the top coat and then laying up the fiberglass for strength is the easy part and while i know a lot about resin work this is an application i have never considered leaving me with the aforementioned questions about heat and scratching.

i am gonna give the corian a look and see how it would come together.

I love the process as much as the result. Brainstorming and thinking asymmetrically - IMO that is as almost as much fun as sailing the darn things. I have come up with some interesting ways of getting things done that way. Sometimes, tho, the simplest solution is the best.
