What are these portlight closures called?

Hi all,

We are looking to retrofit the wing nuts on the new boat's portlights with this sort of loop style nut, but have no idea what they are called or where we might find them.

Can anyone point us in the right direction?

I wonder if you could use standard eye nuts like the metric stainless ones from Whitworths?

We've got the original bronze wing nuts on the Peterson, but the Admiral very much prefers this style which we have on the Swanson.

I must say, I agree with her, this loop style is much nicer.

Of course there are 12 portlights on the Peterson so we are looking for 24 of the little buggers. I suspect they will not be cheap.

oval nut, eye nut, loop nut, loop...actually learned something new today!

Might be worth looking at lamp making supplies:

Re: What are these portlight closures called?

Those have a tapered contact area, which they need to properly work. Unless your ports dont have the concave tapered mating part.... If your mating area is flat, they likely wont work that well. But the "Seadogs" mentioned above will.

They were called Bow Nuts in my day.

Re: What are these portlight closures called?

I have them on my boat. Mine are threaded 5/16-18 (5/16 dia x 18 tpi). I have two sizes of the portholes. I last saw those portholes which were made in N.Z. for sale by White Water Marine Hardware in the USA although they do not show on their current web site. This image is from an old screen capture. They also used to sell the screens to fit the ports and replacement gaskets. http://whitewatermh.com/ Pacific Seacraft, ComPac, and Westsail used them.
