Re: What are these portlight closures called?

You might try Chatfield Marine and Auckland. Looking through my old stuff I found a bad link to their web site that may have pointed to the eye nuts and to the portlights like yours.
Chatfield Marine - Contact Us

On my eye nuts the angled bottom noted earlier in this thread is an important feature, and the far more common style of eye nut with a flat base would not self center in the forks.

Send me an old one I can cast them a lot cheaper than hat including shipping from my family forge . We also do make our own steel and castings for pomels and handguards so casting a few small bronze fitting would be a nice change of pace .

Ok looks like flat mating surface and not tapered.

The 'regular' eye nuts do not have the tapered / conical section right after the mating face heading towards the loop. If you and Matt want the CAD for this let me know, it might need some improvements in the corners to be cast-able. Assuming 3/8-16 tapped hole and 3/8" loop I get 3.3 oz in bronze, 3.6 oz without the threaded hole.

Re: What are these portlight closures called?

Cone nuts and cone washers are readily available. Perhaps an oversized nut so it won't grip the threads will do or just use a cone washer if you can get the right taper.
But can you just clean up what you have by bead blasting, sand blasting, wire brush? Possibly galvanize it afterwards? Chain regalvinizers do this all day long.

Re: What are these portlight closures called?

For comparison I just weighed one of mine. It is 2.85 oz. The 5/16 threading I reported in post #15 is incorrect. Mine are actually 3/8.

Thanks for weighing your part. I can see about making the CAD model a little lighter through the loop.

If you already have it in cad would love a copy of that . Will save my middle son some work .
Will likely print a plastic one to make molds from . Sounds like I could sell a few hundred of them to people doing upgrades . And a lot cheaper than $25 each .

Re: What are these portlight closures called?

This is a picture of one of these oval portholes with the factory screen fitted in it. The picture is from a friend's boat. The screen is built like a brick s___house and should last until... well forever. I have never seen the screens for sale although screensofschoonerbay.com makes similar but less robust screens for these ports.
