I'm looking to poss purchase a Westsails 32. I have concerns about stress cracks on the cabin roof. There does not appear to b any sponginess, but they are noticeable and prolific. I have included a pic. Any opinions would b welcome.

Check with Bud Taplin @ westsail.com

These are well documented. They're not structural.

Those are pretty severe stress fractures. They won't go away unless they are ground out and glassed over. Look how the fractures go right through the molded in skid. If you want a beater boat for cheap then go for it, but this boat will never look good without a ton of work. If the price reflects that it may still be worth going for it, but doing it right is a big job. You can't just die grind them and fill with epoxy, they'll come back every time. If there are fractures like this everywhere it's probably because the factory gel was sprayed much too thick, but the examples in the pic look like they go well into the glass to me. Either way they are big enough to require serious grinding to remove.

I'd have to chip the gelcoat back a bit to be sure. This *looks* more like gelcoat crazing (cosmetic) than like laminate fatigue (structural). As long as the underlying laminate is sound, they're not a structural / safety concern and are just ugly. As minaret pointed out, filling or painting over them won't work; the stress patterns that created them the first time will still be there.
