That is what I kept saying - no Teak! But, here I am with a boat with a Teak deck. (I've gotta get my head examined)

Re: Teak Deck Replacement Foolishness

Not a hopeless case but be ready for one of these options:
- lot of hard work
- or: lot of costs
- or: long passage to a reliable yard in Mexico, Thailand, etc, where you can get it done cheaper.

If the boat is reasonably well kept, quite possible that you got maybe 6-10years until teak replacement but on the long term it's inevitable.

Also keep in mind, screwed teak can be a pest on cored hulls.

I get rid of a lot of old teak decks. Doing a Passport 40 now. Last client priced new teak decks; $60k at Delta in Seattle, $80k at Baja Naval. Costs more in Mexico! Thailand is different, as its next door to the source. Either way, you're getting plantation teak. Meh. I redid his decks in real nice two tone skid for $20k. Do the math. Plantation teak that might last ten or fifteen years for three times the price of new fiberglass decks. No brainer.

I didn't mean raw material costs. Labor.

If it cost 80k for raw materials we'd be decking in gold with diamond nonskid! That's the price for the full job on a larger boat, labor included.

Re: Teak Deck Replacement Foolishness

My last data point was $4500 to remove teak deck and replace with a glued, non-screwed deck on a 45 ft boat in Boat Lagoon, Thailand in 1998. Job came out much better than the original Beneteau deck.
Might cost twice that much now, but nowhere near $100k. The good news is that Nai and Toe were still in business in 2015.
