Re: Sourcing 3in, polished 316 stainless Flanges?

They are called stub ends. That’s helped quite a bit. I’ve found a lot of places that make similar stub ends. But lots of mods needed.

Re: Sourcing 3in, polished 316 stainless Flanges?

Ok I'll try & explain a different way. Measure the o.d of the pipe or tube you want to fit in the flange then ask a pipe fitting supplier if he has a welding flange to suit. There could be different terminology issues here as I'm only familiar with NZ terminology not US.
Spent a bit of time in the US. & know things can be lost in translation.
Earlier post described what i think of as a flange as a 1/2 nipple. 1/2 nipple is something completely different here.
But in yr OP you picture a slip on or welding flange in my terminology. Get one of those, cast if no alternative & get it polished to your satisfaction. Take one of your polished 2" flanges to the polishing shop & say this is what you want.
Hope that helps.
I think I'm done here

On edit I see you call them stub ends, you posted whilst I was writing. Good luck

Re: Sourcing 3in, polished 316 stainless Flanges?

Just to share what all the responses are like, here’s one. And they say they have no idea where I can find them.

What ever happened to being nice and referring people to other suppliers when you don’t have something?

Chotu, I am seeing some inconsistencies here with your keeping it light messaging in other threads, which I agree with btw. Have you considered using aluminum instead of ss for this? It is 168lb/ft3 while SS is about 490lbs, 3X the weight which would be a non starter for me.

Go to an arch or tower fabricator. They’ll knock out something similar

Re: Sourcing 3in, polished 316 stainless Flanges?

Outside the box thinking.

A - Call Garhauer, the hardware folks. I have had them make custom fittings. Bery reasonable.
B - Look at a different style fitting. Essentially what you want to do is to hold a pipe in place. You could use a stub up that you slide your pipe over. A set screw to hold it in place if you must. Or a pin, then it is “removable” and is an “additional feature.”

You cant always get what you want, you get what you need.

Steve.
Hey, now this is the kind of post I like.

Giving me a good smack upside the head to remind me every pound counts.

The columns these flanges are for are composite to save weight, but I’m all for saving weight on these fittings too.

Any thoughts on getting these in composite or anodized aluminum? Need them to look good.

I saw some composite ones linked in my other thread, but those were stub flanges. The tube fits over the outside of those. Not too attractive looking.

I agree with that. But these need to look really nice. Yacht quality. It’s what you stare at all day long looking out from the boat. They are on the aft beam.

Second Garhauer- they are very good at what they do and I've had custom prism plates made SS (polished) also 1/2 in chainplates-(polished) very reasonable CAD cut so duplicates become very reasonable.

Re: Sourcing 3in, polished 316 stainless Flanges?

Are your stations pipe size or tube size?
Bear in mind stubends are pipe sizes so the 3” stub end is designed to weld to a 3” nominal pipe size (NPS) I.e. 3 1/2 od pipe. For a 3” od stantion that would match with a 2 1/2 NPS stub end.
Your photo is a floor flange and you are correct normally onlymade to 2”

Regards
paul

Re: Sourcing 3in, polished 316 stainless Flanges?

The two inch off the shelf non custom units you purchased were how much? Thats a good start point.

I will say that 6 stanchion bases custom from Garhaur priced two weeks ago approx same as what you want but 1.5 inch dia tube was $450 plus tax I imagine but with a 4 week wait. I agree with the previous posts that that garhaur is both excellent and well priced.

I knocked them up because the 4 weeks was a problem.

Make them as nice as you want. The only thing that shows is the plate.

I guess because the machine shops were coming back to me saying they couldn’t reproduce this as it’s cast and not welded, I was believing them. I’ll keep looking.
Even if they can’t weld, they can still turn it from round bar. In college, even when studying electronics, they taught me to make that using a lathe and drill press. There’s no excuse for a machine shop to turn that down other than it being too small a job for them to be bothered with. We see that behavior more and more here in Florida.
