POR rust primer - any opinions?

I have just purchased my 1st steel hull - Roberts36. In the auto repair trade POR rust primer has a good reputation but how might it compare to something like coal tar epoxy for spot rust repairs? the repairs needed are around deck fittings(stainless) & a window. Thanks for any input.

Coal Tar is more of a sealant and protective layer. You want a heavy zinc-rich industrial primer for the base coat. Whatever the local steel ships use is often the best bet. Although there are good arguments for a two part primer on the exterior, on the deck and below the waterline.

Re: POR rust primer - any opinions?

We've successfully used POR in our engine room, on non-stainless items. It lasts for about 5 years or so.
