Perkins 4.236 - where to put shaft seal water supply

Working to install a shaft seal on my boat. Previous was a PSS with no water supply to it. New is a Tides Marine that requires coolant water.

Where should I put the water supply barb.

Couple options I'm considering.

- Drain plug from the heat exchange
- Replacing the heat exchangers supply pipes (steel) w/a long run of tubing, with a T inserted into that.

From what I am seeing, it looks like the high pressure water side that feeds the heat exchanger and the oil cooler actually run back into the pump supply side. So, I'm assuming that after startup, the return line to the supply side of the pump is pressurized. Sound right?

Thanks folks.

Re: Perkins 4.236 - where to put shaft seal water supply

Per the instructions ➥ https://www.tidesmarine.com/wp-conte...er-pick-up.pdf
Recommended Water Pick-Up Points
In Order of Preference
1. Hose Tee: In-line between the heat exchanger and
riser (as close to the heat exchanger as possible).
2. Hose Tee: In-line between the oil cooler and the heat
exchanger.
3. Hose Tee: In-line between the water pump and the
oil cooler.
4. Drain Plug: Back of the water pump. Be sure the
drain is on the pressure side of the pump.
5. Drain Plug: In the heat exchanger.
6. Drain Plug: In the oil cooler (if oil cooler is on the pres
sure side of pump). The bore should be at least 0.200".
