Re: No gelcoat under waterline

A bit of background:

The boat had 2 main blisters.
Not big, about 5 cm each.
All the hull was grinded until the epoxy, and in some places where was blisters-until the fiberglass.
The boat is standing like this on the dry dock for 6 months, and now it seems to be dry completely.
So the reson im doing it its because i want to coat the boat properly so i dont need to deal with osmosis again soon.

Re: No gelcoat under waterline

I've seen it before, if blisters reappear on a hull treated with epoxy or they have not let it dry well, or have not applied it well and in enough coats, no heat gun etc ....

If you can't find 2000E look for a similar substitute, I don't know Nautix, but if it is epoxy primer formulated for below the waterline, that would be enough..

I found interprotect by international…
Its seems to be the same company just the difference is that the interprotect of international doesn’t have the micro plates…

Note that most people also use too few coats of Interprotect. If you read the instructions, Interlux recommends 4-5 coats for blister protection not 1-2!!! makes a big difference in the cost and duration of the project.

Re: No gelcoat under waterline

Do you think 7.5 liters will be enough for 4-5 layers? for a 35 feet boat
Beam is 11.9 feet.
And the keel is already coverd with hemple epoxy.

Depends on the suraface area under the water. Interlux provides a calc for estimating the quantity needed. 7.5l mist be enough for 2 coats. On my 41ft boat i need 20-24l to get to the desired thickness of the finish. Roughly a gallon and a bit PER coat!

We’ve used both the Petite Protect

https://pettitpaint.com/media/3487/p...on-guide-2.pdf
And the Interlux 2000, not sure if one was better than the other but the Petite is thicker thus requiring half as many coats.

Both look good. Petit has the advantage of requiring half the number of coats but is 80% more expensive than interprotect so I guess you're spending roughly the same $$ either way just less effort with the Petit.

Strange as West Marine has the Interlux 2000e being slightly higher priced than the Petite Protect

1 Gallon and 2 quarts per coat in my last 44 ft with a 6,6 draft, keel to, with interprotect 2000 available in grey and white color.

If you choose 2000 E , alternate colors, one coat gray the next white or white and the next gray.

If it is very hot where you are, another tip, once mixed the 2 components, keep them in the shade, pour only what is necessary in the tray and stir occasionally the pot, there is a thinner for epoxy primers, comes in handy in hot climates and flows better in the roller, do not let a coat dry completely if you are going to paint another on top, if you read the instructions you will see that it indicates a repainting schedule.

Pettit is also good, more expensive and thicker.

Yes, you may find it cheaper in the US, I agree, outside the US I have always seen it more expensive.
