Is this right

Hi
I am in the process of buying a new to me boat the seller has had the bottom cleaned and anti fouled as part of the deal. This is how the bottom looks. Should it not have been sanded and smooth not looking like the surface of the moon or am I just expecting too much from a 10 year old boat.
I will say the purchase is on hold due to the Corona Virus situation.
Any comments appreciated Johnny

Re: Is this right

I think it will come down to exactly, specifically what was agreed as 'part of the deal'.

It seems like the bottom has indeed been 'cleaned and antifouled' (as agreed?).

If sanding, removing old antifoul, prepping and/or fairing, etc, etc, the bottom was not specifically agreed, well... I guess that is why it was not done.

It's good enough for a cruising boat. If you have a deal, I wouldn't detail it. The bottom job was done.

If you want racing perfection, that's a different level of work.

Re: Is this right

While working on my boat in the yard I would watch boats of all kinds that I assume paid for the bottom paint deal from the yard. Haul, pressure wash, paint, splash. Many had a very rough bottom.

Race boats on the other hand got a very different treatment, but I'm sure that was much more expensive. In DIY yards the racing crew spends a lot of time sanding.

Won’t be racing much with a fixed 3-bladed prop. Bottom looks like it matches the prop.

Re: Is this right

Thanks for the replies, looks like I am, as usual, expecting two much out of life. It is only a cruising boat, had my fill of racing, it's single handed for me now, one on the tiller/wheel the other holding a G&T or beer.
Thanks again JohnnyB
