Glue for lewmar hatch lever

The inside locking lever of my small Lewmar bathroom hatch pulled away from the hatch plastic. I have cleaned up the 10 year old very hard glue. Does anyone know of a good adhesive to bond the plastic lever to the hatch? I tried a 2 part epoxy "weld" glue which set beautifully and looked good but it only lasted one day!
Thanks.

Re: Glue for lewmar hatch lever

I think you are building a part as well as gluing per se. I'm guessing the new epoxy separated from the plastic, not the handle. You may have been on the right track, since you need not an adhesive alone but some structure. Were you to drill into the plastic with a few small holes to give the epoxy a grip, and clean very carefully, it might work. Consider a different epoxy, as well. The "weld" epoxy, despite its name, has not in my experience stuck all that well. There are stickier options within epoxies.

Good luck with it.

Re: Glue for lewmar hatch lever

just did the same repair. 2 part epoxy (west marine small double tube). secret is to avoid the glue going elsewhere. the bath hatch inverts completely when fully open. work in that position. take the old handle and cut a pattern in some extra wide masking tape, or i used wide rigging tape. mix the epoxy very well. already have a heavy object or figure out a band to hold secure while hardening... it takes a lot longer than the package says. first few days we did not place any pressure onto the latch, ours seems ok now. others may prefer different epoxy.
