Galley Stoves

In another forum one guy was extolling the virtues of portable induction cook tops. I only ever use one hotplate at a time at home (although the cook top has X4) so using just one induction cook top is not a problem.

I've now invested $A49 to buy one and am really impressed so much so I'm thinking of using gas in an emergency only and installing the portable induction cook top as my preferred way of cooking. (I should point out I have an infra-red microwave installed and intend to use my bread-maker as well)

I've never like the idea of gas in a boat so that is an added plus.

Re: Galley Stoves

So you run your generator under way when cooking meals? Or is being under way an emergency?

Why wouldn't you run your generator while underway? My induction cooker would use a lot less than it's maximum power level (2000W) so I could run it off my battery bank

The average cruising yacht spends most of it's time in port.

Why would you not? Assuming the generator is installed correctly there is no harm caused.

Heeling?
Some generators are good for up to 20 degrees continuous heel, some are not.

Running an engine seems to defeat the purpose of having a sailboat. If the ship’s batteries can handle the power draw though, that’s another story.

Most passagakers I know that use the generator to charge the batteries will reduce heel if required for a few hours to run the generator to charge the batteries.

interesting you post a video of Brian changing to Lfp a couple years ago.to accentuate your desire but there are many questions that must be answered . Here are 3. 1) what battery chemistry and ah cap are you installing? 2) what is your expected daily power usage? 3) how are you planning to replace the used ah?

Understand that on Delos. Brian actually rarely uses his gen set . 90% is Lfp recharged with lots of solar and 2 wind generators .
