It is an instrument transducer.

Re: Can't figure out what this is

Maybe, since it located near the head, it is a "head level" transducer to let you know when you tank is full LOL.

Re: Can't figure out what this is

It's on the hard.

Nothing on the hull in that area.

There's no instruments or electronics that I haven't personally installed. Boat came with only a compass.

Whatever it is, I unscrewed the top, there's a gasket now in view, but the top doesn't want to come off.

I traced the plumbing just to make sure I wasn't going to get a horrible surprise. It is not connected to the head.

Re: Can't figure out what this is

I'm just going to assume it's a transducer at this point.

Re: Can't figure out what this is

Your not seeing anything on the Hull?
That is a transducer for sure.
Maybe under layers of bottom paint.
You'll see a low spot.
If your on the hard, and you don't know what it is, and it cannot be traced to an instrument.
Get rid of it!
Glass over the hole.

It definitely is a transducer. If it penetrates the hull liner, but not the hull, it is a depthsounder transducer, someone has likely epoxied to the hull to shoot through it.

The wire laying in the galley would have gone to an old analog sounder display, that may have been mounted on a bracket at the nav station, or that swung out into the companionway.

Re: Can't figure out what this is

Transducers can work through the hull. Mine does. Mine is stuck to the inside of the hull. Seems pretty accurate. Mine is not in the head though. That seems a little strange to me, but if it is under the floor there I guess that works, it's accessible. Maybe the PO switched and upgraded to the far more reliable and accurate, non electric model called the lead line.

Perhaps we are the last two who know why there is a cavity in the bottom of the lead too.

Count me in as #4.
Yep must be a transducer inside mounted. It just looks awful big diameter though, but maybe it's just the pic.
