That's the same starter used on my 3jh3ce's . I took mine off and found the original Haitachi number on the bottom of the starter, S114-815A. It actually a pretty standard starter, often used on club cadet lawn tractors. I went to a local automotive starter/alternator shop in Melbourne Fl. He quoted me a Haitachi brand starter at half the price of the Yanmar starter. He also quoted me an american made replacement at half that price, and a chinese made replacement at almost half that price. I bought the american made aftermarket starter for about $130. Try your local automotive starter/electrical shop.

Re: Yanmar Starter Motor 3GM30

I bave a Perkins motor but ran into the same problem. I took mine off and was able to bring it to an auto parts house and find a replacement. They were able to cross reference the part number that was stamped on the back of the starter (mine happened to be a Delco Remy)

Below is a video that we did showing how to remove it, where the numbers were stamped, how the starter works and replacing it as well as adding a remote start button in the engine room rather than just the key in the cockpit.

Feel free to check it out and hopefully you find it useful.

If Bandwidth is an issue, we also wrote a blog post with all the part numbers, photos and steps.
Part 1 - Removal and troubleshooting
Part 2 - Ordering, and installation as well as adding remote start

Re: Yanmar Starter Motor 3GM30

Just gone through same with my 2gm20c and you can see thread in this forum. The end result was that Yanmar quote was for NZD 1200, the after market starter we tried from a Chinese supply fitted but failed after only a few starter engagements which cost NZD300 for each motor we tried. The last motor fitted is an American supply from MASCO which is now fitted and looks considerably more substantial than the Chinese supply but cost more as you might expect. The total for the MASCO starter being exported to NZ was NZD 450 but the retail cost in the US was USD229.
We are now up and running
