Yanmar engine hours

looking at purchasing a trawler with twin 175 hp (6 phmhte) yanmars with 6000 hours on each.
The boat is in good shape so how many hours on a Yanmar is to much. My mechanic says it's time to repower and throw away the yanmars and replace with John Deers or Perkins.
I can redo the yanmars but would it be better to re power with john deers or perkins or lehman's ?
The cost is about the same. I'm getting a very good price for the boat.

Take care of them with oil changes & valve adjustments and put another 4,000 easy hours on the Yanmars. This will give you some time to decide about your choices. Unless they have been abused, you have plenty of more time with the Yanmars.

Thanks Hudson Force. These engines haven't been started in a couple of years. The boat is dirty from lack of care but cleanable. All systems seem to work, so the decision I need to make is to redo the yanmar's or replace them.
Looking to set the boat up for the Great American Loop and then use as a live aboard.

Yanmars will be a fairly simple shoe in. No changes to engine mounts, drive train, fuel and water supply, electrics, control panels.
We cruise for 2 months a year and usually do less than 100 hours ( it sails). 4000 hours is forever.

My personal opnion is ther good for at least 10000 hrs. I recently can across a yanmar with 14500 hrs, still going strong. Ive seen a number with 8000+. Obviously some fail early but overall my experience with yanmars has been nothing but positive.
