No,You Can’t Rebuild That Engine,Or Can You?

Sometimes ,you have to ignore that word “can’t”.Watch to the end, fascinating.Maybe some parts got swapped out in between edits ,but an amazing effort with minimal tools

Re: No,You Can’t Rebuild That Engine,Or Can You?

This is definitely one of those cases where "can't" doesn't mean impossible. I'd call this one "probably not worth the effort rebuilding" and "there's a good chance some of the major parts can't be cleaned up enough to be serviceable". I didn't watch through the whole video, but depending on how much machine work was required and what may have needed replacement, a better condition engine could likely have been obtained and freshened up for similar cost.

The labor costs alone would preclude considering this viable in most places.

Sure, but price of repair is what I was referring to, not skillset required

But that was the pint of the video,he repaired it himself, using vey basic tools,(no labour cost) with no parts purchased,no machining other than what he could do with sand paper and a honing tool

Is this an engine? I tough it was a reef!
Seriously, you’re better to look for a running engine with a lots of hours that you’ll pay low price and that would be possible to rebuild at reasonable price than trying to bring back to life this rusty piece of iron.

In a first world country yes, but if your long tail canoe just sank you are out of work. Salvaging an engine and rebuilding it may be your only hope.

I do like the way he kept the costs down by re-using the oil filter and head gasket.

There is another YT video were they dismantle a big 12v battery, clean the plates and reassemble it.

I loved it! This inspires me even more to try to fix anything, as if I wasn't already inspired to do so.

My whole life people have been saying, "You can't do that" or "You can't do it that way", but lack of money, or other necessities, made me try, and it turns out you often can.

And if ever my faith was shaken, this video restored it.

Re: No,You Can’t Rebuild That Engine,Or Can You?

I sat and drank beer while my buddies in Suva converted a fuel injected Mitsu Evo to carbeurated in one night under an 18 watt light. Successfully. That would take weeks in USA.

It’s also been common that machine guns in downed aircraft have been restored after 70 years in the Pacific. Where there’s a will and skill, there’s a way.
