Re: New Outboard - Which Brand?

In the US, you cant buy a NEW 2 stroke but you can buy used ones. If its for a dingy, a 2 stroke is far better. Simpler, more dependable, easier to work on and most importantly, much lighter. If it’s for a larger vessel like a small sailboat as on auxiliary, then weight is not so important. And I agree with others. If you are going cruising, get a 2 stroke as soon as you can.

Yep our 2 stroke is 20 lbs lighter than the 4 stroke! But the 4 stroke is EFI and electric start! Apples to oranges maybe, but it starts so easy and no hassle with the carbs.

And cleaner and quieter. For me, that and EFI means I wouldn’t trade my Tohatsu for an enduro at this point

Had two Hondas OBs complete crap , heavy hard to start

Wouldn’t touch Honda, three Yamaha’s later it’s the only brand.

For international travels I’ve found Yamahas to be #1.

However if you’re considering resale value then go with a white Suzuki. It markets very well.
