Need help servicing Universal 5411 high pressure pump

Hi all - working on a friends boat. No start situation - valves all opening and closing, tested for fuel at high pressure pump port and it was coming thru- cracked injector lines with decompression valve open and saw tiny spits of fuel - still no start..

Pulled starter this even and will replace 2moro - its very worn and slow cranking.

Has anyone serviced the pump? How hard to remove and re-install and how do you time it?

If anyone has done this please give me some tips thanks!

(yes seacock is closed till it runs!)

Verified the glow plugs were getting hot - just no go. Stumped!

I did do what this man explained to do - see 13:20 onwards for bleeding-

Apologies! NO idea how it ended up here! Can you move it to the tech section perhaps?

Re: Need help servicing Universal 5411 high pressure pump

I had my 5411 pump rebuilt at the local Diesel Injection Service. Cost about ten years ago was $200. They also serviced the nozzles for $50 each. I inquired at the local Kubota repair shop (it's really a Kubota engine), they referred me to DIS saying they don't mess with injection pumps, they send them out to the specialists. There should be an injection shop near you, they do all the injection work for trucks and tractors. If a factory repair shop won't try to repair an injection pump, you shouldn't either. The precision required is way beyond amateur skill level.
The pump is timed by shims placed under it, you shouldn't have to change those if the same pump goes back on. If you replace the pump you'll likely have to retime it. That's what DIS told me, and the engine ran perfectly afterward so they were correct.
