Great replies, thanx all..
yes,
Sandero,
raw water pump, exactly like your picture, I should have taken a picture too..!
got it, bending the fins the right way is not important but if you know the right way, well why not.
One trick I saw on another forum, when reinstalling the impeller, is to use a cable tie to "squeeze" the fins, insert the impeller and then cut the cable tie.. it makes it easy when it's hard to see what you're doing, like in my case
Four Winds, so, impeller rotates CW, picks up water from inlet (LH side port, from the ocean via the gearbox), pushes it up "around the long way", as you said, and down/out the RH port to the
exhaust manifold (and through cylinder jackets, heads, thermostat and out to the wet
exhaust elbow, back to the ocean).
DougR, got it, end of camshaft.. I have the MD11/17 Workshop Manual (a whooping 40 pages of it) but couldn't see any detail of the camshaft, timing
gear etc and how it all fits together, are you aware of the existence of any kind of detailed exploded view of these motors?
Finally a little contribution, part numbers of
parts replaced and tips:
Lip
seals - GACO DPSM-12247 (12mm ID, 24mm OD, 7mm thick)
Bearings - NACHI 6001-2NSE9 (12mm ID, 28mm OD, 8mm thick)
both items are pretty standard with many equivalent P/Ns from other Mfgs..
When pressing the new bearings onto the shaft, the distance between end of shaft and inner
race of closest bearing is 15mm.
It goes without saying that you want to press on the inner
race (bearing-onto-shaft) and outer race (bearings-into-seat).. use sockets of the appropriate size
