Hurth transmission parts recommendations?

Have to rebuild my Hurth HBW10. Seems to be 2 options for the rebuild kits--ZM, formerly Hurth, sells OEM parts for a fortune, and a US company named Alto sells them for significantly less. Like about 3/5 the cost of the OEM parts. Alto makes tons of aftermarket clutch parts for autos, etc. but I've read mixed reviews about them. Has anyone any knowledge of or experience with either Alto or ZM transmission parts?
Thanks for any help.

JohnV,

This is a very old post, but I just came across it with a similar situation. I'm wondering who you ended up using for a parts source and your satisfaction in the end.

What is your engine and transmission? And what are you planning to do?

Perkins 4.108 engine, not sure of the transmission model, I had to leave the boat for a work trip the morning after it went "clack clack clack" and stopped turning the shaft... I plan to keep the boat in the marina where it is for now, fly back down to it in a few weeks, identify specific model, then try a rebuild once I get parts. Failing that, shell out $$$ for a rebuilt unit.

The rebuild isn't too difficult, but you will need someone to press off and back on some of the parts with a hydraulic press. Do you at least know the transmission make?

I may have access to a military MWR hobby shop nearby where the boat is, they'd have the presses & any special tools. I'd want to to take it there to work on it.

The only plate I looked at says "HURTH, Munchen, West-Germany" (kind of dates it, eh? )

Re: Hurth transmission parts recommendations?

If you’re referring to the left side where the cooler would be mounted, and that’s all it says, my guess would be an HBW10 or HBW150. It’s hard to tell. There is likely a small tag on the top (if it’s still there).

If all you need are seals and clutches, there is nothing wrong with the Alto parts.
