You know "cats" really can fly. Even when things get flipping crazy.

OMG......

I have enjoyed reading your comments in this thread. Thank you for adding photos too.

And, I think your comments hit on a key point that is making Cats hot sellers.

Interiors of Cats
The interiors of modern cats are very appealing when one considers living on the boat in a marina or in an anchorage.

They have a VIEW.
They have big beds.
They have SPACE. They have PRIVATE sections (two hulls).
They have steps leading up to the deck from the water.
They have wide open decks for lounging.
They have big cockpits for parties.
They have much space and room and light with big "picture" windows to enjoy the view.

Why Mono Sailors Hate Cats: The Bare Truth is Shocking!

Cats are like having your own affordable Island.

Most of them have lots of solar power, watermakers, generator, AC/Heat with fridge and freezers and icemakers.

A Mono Hull is like having and RV riding down the road for hours up on just 2 wheels.

A Catamaran is like having an RV riding down the road for hours on all 4 wheels.

I fully agree.

I've always believed that silicone has no place on a boat. Until now.

Yes, cat sailors like condos. Monohull sailors call them caravans. That is just a different point of view.

Perhaps the title of this thread should be the other way around, since if you even hint at anything like the below quote & linked quote you'll definitely get scratched up!

Re: Why Mono Sailors Hate Cats: The Bare Truth is Shocking!

I thought this was the pros and the cons of sailing mono or multi hulls. Not pics of boats most cannot afford. I like tris over cats just for the geometry of not going turtle. Then again there are a bunch of cons. Monos are great. It's a matter of choice.

Re: Why Mono Sailors Hate Cats: The Bare Truth is Shocking!

This is an absurd thread. I'm sure some insecure multi hull sailors would like to sell mono sailors that their way is best, but I could care less. If you love your boat great! If not, get used to it or sell it. The is absolutely no point to spending time talking about it either way.

Re: Why Mono Sailors Hate Cats: The Bare Truth is Shocking!

Having had monos, cats and tris in the 30-40 foot range and currently owning a cat I suggest that the biggest attraction to a mono is in a good blow, heeled way over, water washing across the gunwales and the feeling of FLYING through the water....at 6.5 knots.

On a cat, we have a cocktail, sit around the cockpit, listen to the wind blow through the rigging and travel at 10 knots.

Perhaps if the monos could get the deck to gimbal as well as the stove....

Re: Why Mono Sailors Hate Cats: The Bare Truth is Shocking!

Everything has advantages and disadvantages. A quick look at the shots shows only the exterior and main salons primarily due to the small staterooms that out of necessity are positioned where they can be. While my mono does not have the extensive salon it does have a very large master and a comfortable salon. Visibility from the helm is also troublesome on many cats. I really don't buy the animosity argument as I do not believe it exists for the most part, are there exceptions, sure, but it is hardly one way. I recently saw artwork on the stern of a cat that said "if it ain't a cat it is a dog". Most sailors know that a cat kept light is fast, but cruising cats aren't light and typically not that fast. Engineering has greatly reduced the propensity for turtleing, and the pounding of trapped seas. I do enjoy the fact that most marinas can put my boat anywhere and most boatyards can lift it out. If I am in a blow heeled way over and making 6.5 knots I am looking to see if i am dragging a collection of crab pots. One additional factor is that in a blow and a mono heels it reduces the strain on the rig by simple physics and that is why a cat can more easily break a rig. I like cats, don't think I would prefer one, but I do see advantages, nuf said.

Re: Why Mono Sailors Hate Cats: The Bare Truth is Shocking!

Last summer I saw a charter cat in Desolation Sound called "Coastal Cottage".
A very apt name for it.
If I'm not mistaken it's a Manta 40 and every time I saw it, they were motoring.
