Swim platform worth the price?

We are looking at purchasing either a Lagoon 46 or FP 45 and are trying to decide if the swim platform is really worth $30K they cost. We dive, so the idea of easily loading gear in the water is tempting, but the price isn't. Anyone have pros and cons of owning one?

Re: Swim platform worth the price?

Truth be told I do a lot more diving off my dinghy than the big boat. I do have a nice one meter long sugar scoop on the hulls which makes entry/exit/loading easier but normally I get in the dinghy and head to a dive site.

Without knowing your diving style it is not easy to answer your question.

Great point! For some reason we hadn't thought of that. In a way, that answers my question. The swim platform is pretty, but if we are going to dive off our dinghy, is it worth the $35K? Probably not.

I'm going to guess you could negotiate on that price as a part of the overall deal, but clearly you don't think it's worth it, so don't buy it.

It even went up $5k while we were discussing it.

Re: Swim platform worth the price?

It would make MOB recovery that much easier, provide additional docking unloading space when returning from a supply run in the dingy.

Yes, they do act as a dingy hoist, they have fold/flip out rests (the metal strips) for the dingy to sit (see next pic in the link) in so no davits required, but then there's no davits to strap things to e.g. additional solar panels etc should that be desired.

Others have managed without them apparently.

If you are doing your diving off the tender maybe one of these would be sufficient

$35,000? You have a picture of this? I’m having a hard time visualizing a $35,000 swim platform.

+1. Can you post a picture? That’s more than I paid for my boat!

It would be more fun to have a 36’ sailboat nailed to the stern and use that as a swim platform, and other things

That's what they cost on the new yachts... Here's the one on the Saona 47. The dealer pricing sheet says it's about $35K. https://www.yachtworld.com/boats/202...na-47-3123461/

Very nice and shiny. I presume it’s hydraulic or something? Does it double as a dinghy hoist?

That is what I was wondering as well, surely it has to be hydraulic as it’s so high off of the water now, and I also wondered about how it and Davits would work.

Many times “options” is where the Dealer really makes their money, they are often way overpriced and installed by the Dealer, not saying this is, just options in general.
Many people pop for them cause they want the boat complete the day it’s delivered, or think it’s factory installed so therefore it’s better, plus to be honest the price is plowed into the boat and that’s financed and it doesn’t increase the payment that much.

However you can often save a ton of money by either having airconditioners. Windlasses, electronics etc installed after you buy buy the boat and also you get to pick what you want, cause the factory doesn’t always spec the best, sometimes their profit margin specs the equipment.

There are no stern steps to the water on new cats now?

Re: Swim platform worth the price?

From what I've seen on Youtube (Ruby Rose | Sailing Around The World has been testing sundry cats) some (many?) cat builders tend to be like German car manufacturers in that options can really balloon the price.

Re: Swim platform worth the price?

For that money it better be gold plated...

You could probably get a completely custom one made, to your exact use case and design for around a 1/3 of the price.
