I would like to see if anyone has refitted a 43', or so, boat from a 4 cabin to a 3 cabin owner's version. I see that there are alot of 4 cabin versions on the market, but very few 3. I was wondering if someone has an idea of the cost associated with such a refit and where to get it done.

Leopard 43' conversion

Hello forum,

the Leopard 43' is 'modular' build. In order to change a 4 cabin version into a 3 cabin version, you will need to remove the module in starboard hull that has the 2 heads in it. Then remove the fuel tank that sits underneath the steps and move it under the aft bunk. Take the forward cabin out and build a stall shower, water / power supply, level the floors, create a desk area, flip the bunk 90 degrees and on and on... When you are done, you will have spend more money and time than it was worth!
Only 15 -20 Leopard 43 owners versions were build, they are sought after.
I think that you will have just as much fun aboard a 4 cabin model as you would on a 3 cabin model. You spend most of your time in the salon / cockpit.
What I suggest you do is take one of the heads out and make it into a separate stall shower. This can easily be done and Kent @ Just Catamarans can quote you on that.
Let me know if you have any further questions,
regards,

The three cabin version is appealing, but in reality, we spend most of our time in the salon or cockpit or the trampolines. The forecabins on our Leopard 42 (essentially same as 43) are quite adequate and very comfortable. I have converted the aft cabin on the port hull to a workshop / storage / laundry - replacing the head with a washing machine. this leaves two cabins for guests and a very livable boat. In time, the other aft cabin will become the study / retreat. The best advice is to sail and live on the boat for a bit and then decide what would best work for you.
