Modifying Privilege 39

I love the privilege line of catamarans. This maybe a crazy question but here goes. Will it be possible to combine the two forward cabins into one "owner's suite"? Specifically, the privilege 39 - which at this time is the only one in my price range. It seems possible - I know it wont be easy. thanks.

If you want an owners suite then go for the Privilege 37 or if you have a bit more money, the 395. The 37 has the single owners suite as standard.

Not many about but the 37 will probably cost you around $150k ready to go. Another thing in their favour... They are nearly 39ft, not 37 as the name implies!

Further to my post above (which for some reason I can't edit).. seems I was mistaken about the length... The 37 is 37ft. Don't know where I got the 39 bit from.

I think that removing the bulkhead between the two cabins will seriously weaken the structure, since that bulkhead helps support the mast. Best to find a boat designed with an owner's cabin.

Believe it or not, there's not a common bulkhead between the two forward berths on the Privilege 39. There's a gap of around 10" or so between them which contains the mast compression post, and all the wiring that goes up the mast. There's a junction box in there for lighting in the forward berths, too. Actually, it's really two gaps, as it's further divided into an upper and lower section.

As amarinesurveyor said, it's probably not a viable option. Even if you were to do it, you'd just end up with a huge, double-length bed with a pole going through it, in a very narrow cross-section of hull. Not sure how usable that space would be for you.

Thanks everyone for your input, I really do appreciate it. That is just the kind of information I was looking for regarding the 39. Obviously I am new to the Privilege but I do love them and everything that has been written about them makes me want to buy one. My plan is to live-aboard and eventually do a circumnavigation.

G' Day mate.. I have a couple of photo's of a Privilege 39 that has had the 2 FWD cabins converted into 1 large master cabin. I came cross the listing a couple of years ago while researching the privilege 39 .. I saved the photo's....but sorry I don't have any other info about the conversion or the vessels name. Here is the aforementioned owners cabin privilege 39. Does anyone know the past or present owners cause id be interested in hearing how they did it and their opinions on the success of the modifications

I have crewed for my friend, Lewis Hill, on his Privilege 39, Harmony. It was built with an owner's Cain forward. The ensuite head is in the starboard AMA and there is an office in the port hull, forward of the galley. Contact Lew for detailed information.
