And the last lot, so they are preserved here once the for sale listing goes offline, as it inevitably will...

Re: Modernizing a Prout Elite 37ft

buzzman, thanks for copying the photos to the thread, nice quality

here are a couple of photos from last night, unfortunatly by the time we had finished getting the frame bolted together the daylight had gone

however we were able to float the center section of the bimini top to the cat,and get it onboard and clamped in place.

hopefully will be able to get another section across this afternoon at high tide.

the angle looks good, and the frame is very rigid side to side, with a bit of flex fore and aft,but this will be stiffened up with 4 forward supports for the front dodger canvas cover.

Re: Modernizing a Prout Elite 37ft

Attachment 159428the dodgy dodger bimini top installed!
i'm going to have to fire the boat boy as he neglected to clean the topsides

happy with the result which weighs about 50kg in total and feels very solid.
though i might add 2 lateral alloy stiffners between the cross beams to prevent sag fore and aft.

Re: Modernizing a Prout Elite 37ft

Well, at least you're not emplying the boat boy the guy in the mono next to you is using. He wants a firing squad, not just sacking! lol

Looks good, atol. Think you're right about the additional transverse rib. Maybe laminate some thin small cross-section timber.

Don't forget the drain holes for the rainwater collection, and think about the routing of the hoses, so you can allow for a 'clean roof/first flush' bypass so as to avoid dirt or salt in the tanks.

Mate of min has a Y-fitting at seat height in the cockpit so as to flush the first few minutes rainfall into the cockpit and out the drains, then switches to tank to catch the rest.

it is a fact of life around here, acid red rain , green slime ,mud , seagull ***** if you are not connected to a marina dock and a pressure washer

i will probably laminate in some inch and a half tubes in the front corners for rain collection once i work out how the covers are going to be fitted.

for stiffnes alloy tubes with tabs welded on the ends and through bolted is probably easiest but will see once the sealant has cured and i've removed the temp supports on the joins which might be sufficient without.

the cored panels are pretty rigid as is,and the solar panel frames should add some support as they are nearly as long as the distance between the cross beams.

Modernizing a Prout Elite 37ft

My snowgoose (non-elite) has a hard top built by the PO with glass front windows and canvas the rest of the way around it really transforms the boat. I do think if I were doing it, I would rake the front windows more.

Watch the weight with what you build, ours is honeycomb core to make it lightweight.

thanks for posting the photo

it would be great if you had some closer up shots of the dodger that you could post, as the detail is hard to make out,and would be a great help for designing the lower aspects of my cover

i have used 8mm nidaplast honeycomb to keep it light so far.
at the moment i'm not entirely sure what i will do for the front cover.
