Re: Modernizing a Prout Elite 37ft

Are you looking for a mast by chance?

2005 BAVARIA 42 CRUISER DAMAGED REPAIRABLE SALVAGE SAIL BOAT | eBay

Now I am not suggesting you spend £16k but they are a salvage firm just looking to get some cash out of this, so there might be a deal to be done. The good news is I can't see anyone taking this on. Oh and it has quite a bit of interior stuff which might be useful to someone doing a project,

just starting to get going again on the catamaran project
,currently building a laminating table so i can take faced molds off it and at the same time vacume bag my panels using honeycombe or airex core.
i would have started sooner but it has been too cold and damp, hopefully i will have a new roof on my workshop soon as well!

once the laminating shop is set up i am planning on taking a mold from the bilges where the water tanks will be located, then removing the plug and fully laminating free standing water tanks in the workshop, which will be a lot easier to do than the designed integral tanks, that would have to be done in the water, with moisture issues.

will do the same for the fuel tank.

once that is underway i will fabrcate the davits and solar panal arch.
and think about a hard dodger for the cockpit.

i,ve also located 3 differnt masts suitable for sale, just got to work out how to transport from wales or liverpool.

should keep me going for a while!

Re: Modernizing a Prout Elite 37ft

well the laminating shop is up and running now, even got mains 3 phase power.

here are a few picks of the lightweight door and frame i knocked up this week, whilst not out saving the planet, and other internet related passtimes

the outer insert was onboard when i got the catamaran,so thought it would make a good mold for a light weight foam core door, that will be removable, and double up as a cockpit table.

i started by waxing, gelcoating and laminating a flat sheet of fiberglass for the inner surface, then cutting this to size, and using the inside of the door frame as a mold, with spacers, laminated a raised profile to this giving the door about 3/4 inch of thickness.

once released i glued in 3/4' ply wood blocks for the hinges and locks that will be bolted to the interior and exterior faces.

i also glued a blind flange all the way around the inside, and a central stiffner.

once this was done i laminated a second flat external face for the door, this time using 2 layers of csm and a layer of woven rovings, instead of 2 layers of csm for the inside.

the inner molding i then epoxied together to the outer face.

this i filled with expanding polyeurathane foam, mixed in liquid form and poured into the door through a coke bottle as a funnel, through a cut out hole.

once the foam cured filled the hole with epoxy and faired, next step is to make some pintal hinges and find a suitable surface mounted lock for inside.

weighs about 8kg,as opposed to the 15kg or so in polycarbonate or plywood.
