Re: Modernizing a Prout Elite 37ft
Man, that thalidomide is not something to make jokes about!
I was born in Feb '62, 6mths before MacBride broke the story of Thalidomides' effects here in Oz.
I am forever fortunate that my Mum never got morning sickness, or could be one-armed as well as one-eyed (private joke).
But I grew up in junior school with a guy named Brett Neilsen, whose Mum did get morning sickness, and to this day I am envious of the ease with which he was able to pop wheelies on his dragstar pushbike. Two legs but no arms. He grippped a sort-pof tiller between shoulder and neck to ride.
In later years I saw him on a TV doco driving his car using his foot, gripping a knob on the rim with his toes. Married with children, enjoying life.
A recent court case here in Oz saw a totally limbless woman finally win a 50 year court battle against the drug's manufacturer, Grunenthal, which will enable her now elderly parents to rest easy that she will always be looked after as they have done for the past 50 years.
Respect.
Thalidomide is the perfect case study for *not* rushing a drug to market.
Sorry about the 90-degree turn Off topic......
Am following atoll's build with great interest.

Re: Modernizing a Prout Elite 37ft
lots of progress in the aft cabins, though not really that much to photograph, unless you like watching paint dry................
as for the glue, am now using a 16 kg batch of SP systems Ampreg 21 epoxy, quite a but different to west system105 as it has a much longer pot life, and lower viscosity.
since it was sunny yesterday we took out 2 of the 4 the front windows for resealing.
also drilled all the holes for the mainsheet traveller and end blocks,
since I had my wife and son available to help out, typically it is raining today, and the traveller bolts were too short
photos are of the completed inboard side of the aft cabins, and the lockers on the outboard side which are nearly complete apart from painting and insulating.

Nice work atoll.
Couple of questions. Will you be covering the sides of the panels with a veneer or rubbing through the resin where it joins the hull structure and varnishing/painting?
I note that the entrances to sections of the hulls are of a unique shape. Will this preclude doors? Are you going open plan in the main?

most of the resin join will be covered by the 1inch thick laminated insulation panels, and a 1inch trim strip, wider than 2inches from the hull or ceiling gets sanded out before varnishing, where the join is wider I will just use a wider bit of trim to cover up.
the doorways will all have a frame, and doors fitted, opening into the cabins, toilet and stb fwd cabin,on the inboard side.
at the moment I have all the plywood cutouts for the doors, but I am toying with using white gloss faced 15mm PVC laminate foam boards as the cutouts for the doors

My experience with some pvc laminates, I would encourage you to make the following test. coat your finger tips with any cooking oil. just dab the oil off with a rag. Go put fingers on the laminate. See if you can wipe the fingerprint...... If you cannot, don't use.

Re: Modernizing a Prout Elite 37ft
fitted the mainsheet track, traveller car, jammers and genoa sheet end blocks.
it is all stuff that I have acquired from boat jumbles, carboot sales etc over the last year or so,mostly in new condition, investment was about £70~~($120) with sikaflex and bolts!
boat needs a clean again outside,i only cleaned it 2months ago,and already the pigeons and sea gulls have turned it into a nesting site

2 months ago?! Are you super anal or what?!! Once a year whether it needs it or not~

tis getting there....I always found doing rebuilds that the final fix is the most irritating and takes the longest time.....
