To be clear, I've sailed the Atlantic eastbound in June/July (and my westbound Atlantic passages have been in Nov/Dec)...I have never sailed the Atlantic eastbound in February/March!!
(there is a BIG difference!!!)


And, while Phil is doing great (and yeah, I've been good at predicting his route, using the NWS/NOAA weather), I've never heard of anyone doing this passage in February for fun....remember this is a paid delivery....and as I wrote a couple weeks ago, those delivery skippers like Phil are a very hearty breed!!!

NEN? Normally abbreviated to NEbN = NorEast by North, One point North of North East, roughly 30-40 degrees.

Yesterday (Thrus) he was moving mostly NE, turning NNE last night...

Current position (as of an hour ago) was:
32* 57' N x 38* 9' W

(With good / favorable winds now.....but with the High building-in west of the Azores, he might have head winds by Sunday...we'll see later)

Not being familiar with the boat delivery business, I'm curious how much will the boat owner be charged for this service. As I see it, Boaty is taking on a significant risk for boat (value=$500k), 2 crew @ $??/day, his own time, transportation for Boaty and crew back to ??, etc. Of course you do have to deduct something for the fun Boaty is having, but how do Boaty's charges compare to shipping the boat on a container vessel.

Here we use just NEN for NorthEast by North.

Back about 7 years ago I priced shipping my 50ft'r to the Med from Caribbean on Dockwise and also Peter&Mays and the prices were in the $30K to $50K range - - one way. But 50ft seems to be a breakpoint as a fellow cruiser on a 40ft'r got quotes about 2/3rds of mine.

I think Flores bears about 40*T, Horta about 51*T, and Sao Miguel about 62*T...

Maybe he picked-up the AIS signal of an Aussie or British Naval supply vessel out there, offering free beer and cigarettes to delivery skippers??
