Re: 2 cool cats anchored off Black Rock in Maui

Unfortunately I can't help you, but I agree the first one looks cool :-) even though a bit overweight on the stern. Maybe it's a converted racer?
Something hints to me it might be a design by Loick Crowther, but I am not sure.

I don't think that's a Wharram, the mast and rig are wrong, it may be some hybrid take off on one of James's designs however.
Definitely not a Tiki or Pahi... nor any of the classics.

Don't think it's overweight, kinda reminds me of the style popular for day charters in the Caribe in the 90's into 2000+..

Winters have been mostly Florida and I have an ocean catamaran but my first mate is “done”. Cat is for sale and I will search for a monohull that doesn’t need insurance. It has eaten me up.

We have a nice little lot on the east shore of Bull Island which is where I hang our for my summers. Little vineyard and kind of glamping. Little Cape dory typhoon is nice there, too. Couple of Lasers. Might pedal the Hobie kayak to Bull tomorrow. About a mile from the state park to our dock. I live near the park, too.

Where do you find the Salish alphabet? I will look for ya.

Bull Island Ken
Hi Ken:

Today we desire to put in at Finley S.P. with our trailer boat we use for the alpine lakes, a Hobie Tandem Island Adventure and sail around the islands of the Narrows and could swing by Bull. Albeit we are "hosting" my daughter's dog and I am not sure how well he will take to staying on the netting extending out over the amas. He is a big Border Collie and a great swimmer but I am not sure he would be capable of following the sailboat for 1.7 miles distance from Finley to your place on Bull especially this early in the season as the water has presently warmed to 49 F / 9.4 C and then there be his return swim back from Bull to Finley. That would be a lot of slow dog paddling. He likely would become hypothermic so if he doesn't stay aboard we will need to haul him out and come back to the Polson area [a.k.a. tipi poles above the water]; the historical image is of downtown Polson from across the river, that is the original bridge which formed a Y in the middle because the merchants could not settle on whether it should lead to First Avenue or Second Avenue so they built the structure to access both, creative compromise back before there were many cars on the reservation or even a road up towards Kalispell.

Looked up your lot on Bull using the Montana cadastral [image below]. Now I know where your place is. Fine spot. Must have a great view of the Mission's. Easy to locate what with the slight cove at the rocky point and dock. You [and / or Janet] were not out waving at the satellite when the picture was taken. We have anchored in the south cove of Bull for overnighters and in more recent years have become fond of camping and anchoring out at Bear Belly off the north of Finley which isle / bird preserve opens to the public on June 1st now that the geese have grown old enough to be not disturbed by human contact.

Maybe we will spot each other.

I'll send a PM, would be grand to make your acquaintance. The lake is noticeably quiet this Memorial Day; Covid seems to have still kept people from travelling. But then it is still too cool for most people to enjoy water sports, only the hardy go swimming during the Spring freshet.

All the best.

Dan

Interestingly enough, when I call up a satellite image of Black Rock Beach at Ka'anapali, I see five cats anchored off the beach. https://www.bing.com/maps?q=Black%20...CBEE1156D96E89

Yeah, these two are slightly north of Black Rock. Almost across from kaanapali villas.

I may be way of, but the first one looks like it might be a Newick design

So what is your issue than?

Ease up a little. Whether Lock or Loick really makes not a huge difference.
And what the f. it reminded me of one of his boats.
And I did actually own a trimaran designed by him for a while.

Surely you are always right, are you?

The know everything guys really work me up.

Chill a little and have a relaxed evening, will you, please.

His first name was actually Lachlan. He liked Lachy or Lach for short. Pronounced Locky or Lock.

A good friend of mine was a good friend of his. Actually named his son Lachlan after him.
