Under 29 Foot But Can Stand Up In The Cabin
Hi everyone,
I am seeking a smaller boat with a cabin I can stand up in at 5'8" tall. I was looking at a few different boats but you have to stoop a bit in the cabin.
Other requirements:
Water draft under 4' 6" (shallow draft)
Easy to sail single handed / all lines go to cockpit
Good capsize numbers 2.0 or under
Sloop
Used price can be found under $10K
Has dinette / table in cabin
Cook stove and sink (as standard)
Head
Sleeps two people (a couple/not separate bunks)
In essence, I seek a boat I can sail on my own but have my wife onboard at night after I return to dock and she won't feel like she is in a "hole" and cannot stand up straight in the cabin. And we can cook dinner and have a nice berth to sleep in and make coffee and a smoothie in the AM.

Not sure where you are at, but a Catalina 27 quickly comes to mind and hits a majority of your requirements. (running lines aft is something a PO would have done).

I am in the Finger Lakes in NY State. Seneca Lake or Cayuga Lake would be where I would keep the boat. At a dock. And that depends on which Lake I can find with dock space. Pretty tough up here.
I sold my 40 foot trawler last year and it had a draft of 3.5 feet and getting it in and out of the channel on Cayuga was tough sometimes. They need to dredge some of the channels here. Sail boats with 6 + foot draft had to stay on the docks much of the summer. (Geee, you'd think they'd get a refund! but, nooooooo.)
I will look more into the Catalina 27 and if there are any within 500 miles of me.
Thank you for your reply!

Re: Under 29 Foot But Can Stand Up In The Cabin
I had researched the boat for similar criteria (6ft headroom and shoal draft) and that list of boats you may look into: Dana 24, Grampian 26, Cal 25 and 24, NorSea27, Hunter 280, Coast 250, Vancouver 25, Oday 28, Catalina 27, Privateer 26, Bayfield 25 and 29, Columbia 26, Pacific Seacraft 27, Tartan 27, Columbia 29. I am not sure about if lines are running into cockpit on these but it is not big project to re-run lines on that size of boat.

Re: Under 29 Foot But Can Stand Up In The Cabin
My Canadian Sailcraft 27 has standing headroom, even the V-berth.
About 90 of them came with shoal draft (lead keel) of 3'11"
With the shoal draft keel the CSF number is 1.99.
They are tough boats.
With the economy tanking, they are selling for a dime a dozen in Canada.
Do a search for " sailboats" on kijiji.ca, make your search region "Ontario"
https://www.canadianyachting.ca/boat...il-boat-review
https://www.kijiji.ca/v-sailboat/bar...9075?undefined
Asking Canadian $9000 so about US$1.99

That Sailcraft looks very intriguing.
The link you provided is in particular a boat I would be interested in but is says NOTE at the end and that the boat will not be available UNTIL fall.
How easy/tough is it to buy a boat in Canada and get it to NY state and get it titled and registered in the USA? I wonder. Aloud.

Bristol 27
5'10" headroom
4' Draft
The keel is pretty beefy and can handed a grounding

Nice!
I am supposed to be looking at a Bristol 24 after the owner gets back from a buzz trip that is very local to me. But I am not sure of the head room in that boat. I like the looks of them although I read bad things about water ingress and rot. But they have a salty look to em.

Don't know, should not be too hard, we are supposed to be best friend after all :-)
PS. Take a drive to Montreal, I will show you mine.

Is that one for sale?
I am looking at a Bristol 27 too. Blue Hull. I like that look.

Re: Under 29 Foot But Can Stand Up In The Cabin
The Columbia 29 MK2 may be more common and has the dinette set-up:
