ST 4000 plus issues

Hi,

I am new to this forum, but not to sailing. My ST 4000 is having issues, it will not disengage. I took it apart, bought a new belt, cleaned and reset all of the planetary gears and used new grease. When I try to free wheel it, it gets stuck and causes the belt to mildly engage and skip teeth.

Any help would be wonderful.

Best regards,

Greg

This unit will not really "free wheel". You can possibly force it by turning the helm with it engaged but you are causing the motor to run fast the opposite direction.

You should pull the pin on the wheel attachment. That is how you "disengage" an autohelm st4000.

Buy a new evolution kit from Defender or ?, they have a $250. rebate. Less than $1000. There should be a tensioning adjustment on the back.
