I bought the boat. The information I have is the boat was launched in 1978 on contract for a Donald L. and Frances M. Brown. Built by a Julian Arthurs, master carpenter, at Skookum Marine Construction, Port Townsend WA.
I am looking for any information, history, construction diagrams on the vessel.
Let the spending begin.

Congratulations on your new purchase. Yes, Skookums were made in Port Townsend, and there are quite a few up here. We looked at a 47 a couple of years ago, but couldn't imagine ever haveing a boat that big, go figure. The one we looked at seemed sturdy and roomy, but the rig didn't seem sturdy enough for the boat. I'm sure there were a variety of finishes and yours is a completely different animal. I know there's one poster here that used a 53 for commercial fishing for years in Alaska! There are several 53 owners on this forum and it'll be just a short time before you connect. Fair Winds

Good on you jim767, congratulations.
Mine is outfitted to sail and commercial fish and that is what she does well, we are also getting her ready to sail south in the cruiser mode. I have some wiring diagrams for my vessel, I don't think they would help you, there has been so many changes since the original schematics were drawn that there is no resemblance to what is in place now. I would love to find blue prints, it would make the refit that much easier.

Congrats....I guess
Yes every boat I find, someone else is already buying! No really congrats! It looked like a good boat. You have probably done me a very large favor by taking yet another temptation off the table. Happy sailing!

There are a bunch of pics on yachtworld, 53 Skookum in SC.
I will post pics of the progress as we prepare to take the boat to Martinique this winter.
The boat will be renamed "AYSHA NOUR" after an appropriate renaming ceremony, of course.
Send money.

Hi...My Name is Joyce Arthur..my Father owned Skookum Marine and I could tell you anything you want to know....The Rose was my fathers boat..but was called the Anti- Up...I worked on most of the boats...We built to any stage of completion so some of the interiors where completed by the owners...At any given day we would have 11 to 12 boats under construction...
Im so please you like the boats....
The boats took months and even years to complete so all the owners became family..
