Re: Shower Me Timbers! Boats Up To 50' LOA with Shower Stall

This might have been unusual in the past, it certainly isn't any more. There are simply too many boats to list. Virtually all the new Beneteaus and Jeanneaus have separate shower stalls. And the Wauquiez 47, Seaward 46RK, Moody 45 DS, just a few off the top of my head.

I like the way the Dufours 450 & 500 take it one step better - in the forward cabin, the shower Stall is completely separate from the toilet/sink area, so two people can use them at once. The Beneateau Oceanis 48 does this as well.

I've seen more than one Hunter at boat shows with separate shower stalls.

I forget whether it was a Hunter or a Catalina I saw with a sitz bath with a glass door.

Nelsen Merek Morgan 43 CC has a shower stall / 1/2tub in the aft cabin stateroom. Separate shower stalls are a necessity. Only thing worse than a cold head gasket in the middle of the night is a cold and wet one.

Nauticat 43, two heads, the one forward is a wet head, and the rear has a separate shower stall. We only use the shower stall and keep the forward head clean.

I think the smallest boat with one is the S2 9.2 C:

I've never seen the shower-head for an Amel, either Maramu, Santorin, or SM - Anyone happen to know their shower configuration?

Might be easier to find the boat you like then modify the shower arrangement if you have the space.

Does anyone know of a source of pre-made units that could be retro fitted in a boat. I tried to find some using google in RV sources but came up with nothing, yet......

Pre-made surrounds like in a house but more compact would be ideal.

Re: Shower Me Timbers! Boats Up To 50' LOA with Shower Stall

I want to thank everyone who has contributed to this discussion. The list of boats with showers continues to grow due to your help.

Thanks too to those who are posting photos of a shower. The photos help and can show how different boat designs approach the brief (include a shower). Please continue to post photos if you can.

Shower with Seat
I see that the showers with a seat look most practical to me, for showering while underway.

Shower with Tub
Some boats have a "sitting tub" and I wonder how practical or appreciated those are. Being a single guy, it may not be as important to me as it might be to others, especially women who like a bath. Anyone care to speak to the value of the "tub" or 'tubette" on a boat?

I think that applies to land based units too.

I have wondered about something like this and a similar idea to modify existing "two heads" designs on a boat to make one a "Dedicated Shower."

I know most boats of this size try to squeeze two multifunction heads in the boat plan.

As I intend to have a boat just for a cruising couple, I think one head (if the boat comes with typical two) could be modified to better use, possibly reducing the need (eliminating) a holding tank too.

The thought I had was to take out the "second" head (toilet) and holding tank, then make a sit down shower stall in its place. I have also been considering the potential replacement of a typical marine head with a composting toilet/head. Then the boat would have a composting head in one "head space" and a dedicated shower with bench in the other "head space."

Of course many would not want to do this as it may affect resale value of a production design boat. But, I have been looking at boats that are custom, one off, and some that are designed for a couple primarily, without the need to accommodate a lot of guests.

Anyone have thoughts on this conversion?

Re: Shower Me Timbers! Boats Up To 50' LOA with Shower Stall

Our Hunter 410 has a separate shower with seat and full headroom in the aft head that opens into both the saloon and the owners cabin. That said, I would not say that the rest of the head stays completely dry, but it is much drier than the forward head/shower combo. We use that shower very rarely.
It's also true that in the Caribbean (and elsewhere in summer) we strongly prefer the transom shower.
