Re: Shower Me Timbers! Boats Up To 50' LOA with Shower Stall

The larger Caliber's, the 40 & 47, have a separate shower stall with a seat and a plexiglass door in the forward head.

While not spacious, it is separate.

Re: Shower Me Timbers! Boats Up To 50' LOA with Shower Stall

The reason for the seat has more to do with the curved hull being there then for comfort/safety. Unfortunately, the seat collects water that I have to brush off after each shower. A future project is to install a drain hose from the center of the seat down to the shower floor.

I know most boats of this size try to squeeze two multifunction heads in the boat plan.

As I intend to have a boat just for a cruising couple, I think one head (if the boat comes with typical two) could be modified to better use, possibly reducing the need (eliminating) a holding tank too.

The thought I had was to take out the "second" head (toilet) and holding tank, then make a sit down shower stall in its place. I have also been considering the potential replacement of a typical marine head with a composting toilet/head. Then the boat would have a composting head in one "head space" and a dedicated shower with bench in the other "head space."

Of course many would not want to do this as it may affect resale value of a production design boat. But, I have been looking at boats that are custom, one off, and some that are designed for a couple primarily, without the need to accommodate a lot of guests.

Anyone have thoughts on this conversion?
That would be a perfect arrangement imho, I have an airhead and love it, unfortunately my shower is in the same room.

Steve.

My Dufour 50 has a separate shower stall although attached to the head. It has a curtain to separate the compartments. it works very well. i note the Dufour Grand Large 485 appears to have a separate shower stall as well. See photos of layout.

regards

[B]In any event, whether separate or combined with toilet and wash basin, you're going to want to dry out your shower after each use[B], or put up with the consequences, mildew, and smelly water, unless you bail out the sump. It's life on a boat.

Forget the sump, connect the drains directly to a pump!
