Questions about 1977 Hunter 30

I am looking into purchasing a 1977 Hunter 30 and am looking for what questions to ask and what to look for. This is my first boat purchase so anything helps!

Here is a link to the boat.

Did you see the boat yet? How'd she look?

The description of marina amenities seems like a reason enough to get this boat.

BTW what are they charging for docking fees there?

I will be moving her into another marina but it is very nice as well. That marina is charging around 750 but is renovating soon and kicking out a lot of the boats.

Re: Questions about 1977 Hunter 30

I have been on a few Hunter 30s they seem like pretty decent boats. My family had an 1981 36 foot Hunter as our first keel boat from 1992-1998 (same designer and build period). It served us very well. She was with us during those first few awkward years of sailing and was abused by us amateurs learning the ropes. I think she took it pretty well. She survived a few major groundings and once being washed ashore in a tropical storm with just a few scratches, she was stolen and used to move drugs and then abandoned in the Gulf of Mexico. She drifted around for a few days and then was picked up by a USCG boat.

We never had any issues or anything major/structural go wrong. But with any boat of that vintage, I would watch out for wet deck core and bulkhead rot/damage. Are you going to have her surveyed? Good luck.
