Pulled the trigger...dreaming is over, time to get to work!

After what seems a very long time of lurking, daydreaming, and reading, I pulled the trigger tonight on a 1981 Hans Christian 38T! I'll remain landlocked until next November due to contract, but that gives me a year of TLC and learning the boat prior to shoving off. Now the real work begins! Just sharing some excitement...thanks to everyone for the inspirations.

Congratulations.

I remember when I pulled the trigger on everyone one of my boats. A mixture of apprehension and mostly excitement.

Have a great adventure.

Re: Pulled the trigger...dreaming is over, time to get to work!

Sounds geat!

A year is about as much and as little as one may reasonably want - enough time to get 100% ready and not enough to let the dream slip away.

You elected a very noble design. How much TLC do you thing she will need?

How far do you want her to take you?

Congratulations!

PS My friends used to have a 38T. They loved every inch of their boat. They cruised the Caribbean, East and West.

Good for you! That wait will only make it sweeter. I hope it serves you well for a long time!

Many dream of buying a nice boat and to set off, but only few actually do it. Well done, classic boat that always looks good in the anchorage.

Agreed, the year will be concurrently too much/little time. She's structurally sound, with minimal electronics; just what I was looking for as I prefer a mostly old school setup. Her teak decks have already been removed so TLC requirements are mostly aesthetic...woods and bright work. Basically, someone to love her up again.

Where to take her???...every where the water is warm. Given I'll strike out from central Florida's Atlantic coast, the Caribbean is closest. From there...who knows? While a trip around the horn could be done with this vessel, unlike too many others I'd considered, I'm inclined to stay warm, which is another reason I went with this vessel...all those "maybe's" still exist!

Congrats: A classic sailing vessel, and a real sailor, with a compass, chart, knot meter, depth sounder, dividers, and plotter. And a strong affection for warm weather cruising.

And, maybe a hand held GPS, a cruising guide, and a fine supply of dark rum.

As that rascal BB says " Don't dream your life, live your dream. "

Good on ya, lad.

Hey Salty, Congrats!! What very exciting times!

We share in your excitement as we are to close in two weeks.

I also agree with Maxingout, excited yet apprehensive at the same time. A very big step for us as I'm sure it is for you.

Hans Christians are great boats, and real lookers to boot. Best of luck, mate.
