Jeanneau 53 - Made in the USA Now ?

Pure speculation on my part, but it appear that, similar to BeneteauUSA models like 46, the new Jeanneau 53 is made in the US -- how else can you explain ~$520k "loaded" new price tag compared to the many 5 year old 54DS Jennys languishing in the secondary market at listing prices above that.

I don't know whether it is good or bad, and whether it does anything to their ISO 9001 certification, but it rhymes well with my search for a Benny/Jenny of roughly similar size.

Also rhymes with the excellent Eminem's Superbowl Chrysler commercial, "Imported From Detroit". Other than the game itself, I thought it was the best part of the show (and I am not even a native here).

The 53 is made in France. The only model made in the US is the new 409. Cad methodology, computer carpentry and mass buying power explains how they can do it. A lot of boat for the money.

"A lot of boat for the money", true. However the new 53 has nothing to compare with old 54.. she is lightly built, finish and quality of material is poor. The new 57 is pretty much the same.
54 was a bullet proof boat but (unfortunately) Jeanneau decided to drop it for cost saving and remaining competitive in the market place. 54 was expensive but for the good.
In short; if you want to charter, 53 (and 57) are great boats. If you want to buy, I would opt for a well kept 54 instead of new 53.

Cheers

So sad ... half a million bucks and that's what you get?

Of course what's sadder, is people buy them. No pride of ownership anymore I guess.

Can't talk about the J53 as I haven't seen, but I've spent a lot of time (and many miles) on the DS54 and the newer J57. The old DS54 I would describe as a comfy cruiser - reasonably well made, very comfortable and sailed like a dog. Too round in the belly, she'd round up at the earliest opportunity. The J57 is a different beast - v liveable, very solid and sails like a dream. She really is a delight.

Re: Jeanneau 53 - Made in the USA Now ?

I flew down to Nantes, France this weekend and visited the Jeanneau factory in Les Herbiers on Monday, July 4th for a tour. The operation was very impressive and much larger than I'd expected. I did look at the layup and insides of the Jeanneau 57 and disagree with a previous poster about it being a lightly built boat with a poor finish.
I sold my Jeanneau 49DS a couple of months ago and decided that I'd go for a new boat this time around and ordered a new Jeanneau 57. This will also be called "Zanshin" but is currently in the final stages of production and currently only bears the name "Hull Nr. 68".
I posted some touristy pictures of Nantes and some boaty pictures of the factory at Jeanneau Factory Tour

Nice pictures. Quite impressive.

Looks like you will enjoy a very nice boat when it comes out.
