I can vouch for seeing a lot of Islander 36's on the SF Bay. There used to be one in the fleet of charter boats for a company I worked for while in college. It was a sturdy and relatively trouble free boat. It handled the blustery SF Bay winds quite well.

You may also want to take a look at the Ericson 35 and the Ericson 38.
