OpenCPN to usb converter problems

Hi everyone, hope someone can help me. i am a novice at this sort of thing and I'm struggling to connect opencpn to my Simrad AP20.

I am using a Windows11 pc with a digital yachts usb to NMEA0183 converter. It's all wired in and have followed the instructions adding the connection, plotting and activating a course etc. Nothing seems to work and the usb connector lights do not flash to show data transfer.

I have two of these connectors, one is already successfully installed and providing AIS data. The second connector for the AP is the problem.

At this stage, I do not know if it's a setting that's wrong or a dodgy unit somewhere.

Apologies if this is not that clear, like I said I'm a novice at all this.

Re: OpenCPN to usb converter problems

Have you tried switching around the + and - on the pairs to see if that solves the problem? It seems there is no consistency in which wire each company consider positive or negative.

Thanks for the reply.

Yes have tried that as had that issue with my AIS. The usb NMEA0183 converter seems to be trying but the AP just wont see it.

Re: OpenCPN to usb converter problems

There are input and output connections on the AP20 junction unit:

See this AP20 junction unit diagram.
The baud rate for the NMEA(IS15)connections would be 4800.

You may also need to setup the connections. Look around page 96 in the same manual.
