Hinckley Pilot

Hi All

I was thinking about getting a Bermuda 40 but the two boats in my price range sold. The boats currently available are either too expensive or in bad shape. So I'm considering getting a Hinckley Pilot. It has a little deeper draft but it may be a bit easier to single hand. I will be sailing on the Chesapeake Bay. This would be my first boat and hopefully my last as I don't want to have to buy and sell in the future. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks

Re: Hinckley Pilot

Hinckley's are a first rate boat. The Pilot, due to it's older design has a narrow beam and short waterline. Likely after buying a Pilot and later seeing a Bermuda 40 you will wish you had waited. Much better design. Be patient. It will pay off.

There are other designs and builders out there that offer good quality in the 38-40ft. range. Maybe some of them might tug at your heart strings.

Re: Hinckley Pilot

I’ve always thought of Hinckley as North America’s peer to Europe’s Riva.
That they still make a classic but modern 50’ sailboat reflects North America purchases. The cockpit on Power Hinckley is just stunning. Hull layup motor mounts systems the boats have an amazing record for finish and quality. Their power boats are famous for speed. I drove one with twin V6 Turbo diesels and their 40’ hardtop ran through swells like a sport boat. Their Sailboats are race winners. The 50’ would have problems in Chesapeake due to utility lines at 65’.
The must have someone on quality control because old the hulls seem to have no surprise voids. I was looking at their well known competition with a 30 year old factory defect compromising a hull.
