Help. Want 42' boat in 36' package
Yeah, I know. Doesn't everyone. But maybe there's a model we're overlooking.
Wanted:
Large forward berth
2 aft cabins
Ample cockpit
No traveler in cockpit
Sugarscoop transom
$80k or less
Not interested in a cat, so please don't suggest.
There are a number of 42+ boats that fit the bill. I love the Beneteau 430, but they're getting long in the tooth. The Beneteau 400/411 are close. The Jeanneau Voyage 12.5 is about as small and as close as I've discovered.
Can anyone think of a boat under 40' that meets those criteria?
Thanks!

I think Jeanneau had a 37' with double aft cabins and nice sized cockpit. Don't know if they would fit your other criteria.

3 full sized cabins, for couples with good libidos, or smaller aft doubles for kids? And what's the boat's intended purpose, & area of operations?

Thanks for the input so far. I wasn't aware of the 36i.
Any more I may have missed?

We used to be part owners of a 36' Hunter with the amenities you describe. Circa 2010. I suspect you could fine them for 80k or less.

Beneteau 381 3 cabin layout.

Re: Help. Want 42' boat in 36' package
Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 35
Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 36i (newest - first delivered in 2007)
Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 37 (oldest model)
35 and 37 are available as "Sun Fast" - same hull and interior. The main difference is - deeper keel, taller mast, better deck equipment i.e. more fun sailing. Although the Sun Fast have traveller in cockpit.
The 36i does not have traveller in cockpit - there are no Sun FAST version. But there is a "SO 36i Performance" highly recommended - much better deck equipment, foldin prop and more sail area (taller mast and longer boom).
Good luck!

Why does the size matter if you can find the features/price point? Too small a slip?

Buy Beam.
Bavaria 37 Holiday seems to match your description well.

Re: Help. Want 42' boat in 36' package
Wow. I thought I'd discovered all the options.
Bavaria 37 seems like a reasonable option, though none in USA near the budget.
The Beneteau 390 to me is like a small 430, I see one and go back to wanting a 430. Then remind myself I want to be reasonable and responsible, and recognize that 39 is not 36, or even 37.
Keep them coming! Thanks!

Re: Help. Want 42' boat in 36' package
Seems like folks have failed to also describe the compromises of squeezing a boat that feels like a 42, into a 36. To avoid insulting anyone's intelligence, I won't get into the details, which could be comprehensive, and is already the context of well-known boat design texts.

Quite right. One effect observed in the later 90s Beneteau and some Jeanneau is the freeboard went to man-hight. Losing the second head is a given, but tolerable. Bunks are smaller. No big pretty bed up forward, just a V berth, same size as a Catalina 30 (if you're lucky).
But I had to ask, and in fact there have been a number of interesting boat designs suggested. Can three cabins be squeezed into a Jeanneau 12.5? Yes, but I haven't measure the berths to see if taller humans will fit. Clearly they can be squeezed into a 36' with the 36i, but it does look awfully tight.
