Feeling 326 Stern Gland

Hi all, I'm brand new to the forum and have just acquired a 1998 Feeling 326 and hoping someone can put my mind at rest about something.

Whilst familiarising myself with the boat I squeezed the gaiter around the stern gland and prop shaft and some water came out, when released it resealed itself.

I queried with the previous owner who says the gland is supposed to let by a bit of water to lubricate the join, you are supposed to pump it a bit when you drop the boat back in the water to ensure the join is lubricated, so a wet bearing, does anyone else have a Feeling 326 that can confirm that this is correct?

Hi RSB333

No it's a volvo penta rubber stuffing box. I have since found a few YouTube videos and now understand that these are designed to drip some water into the boat while running but I think should be dry when just moored up.

Guess I'll just keep an eye on it for a while to see if the drip rate is about right or not

If a Volvo shaft seal ,there should be a fitting to go over the shaft to allow a small a,out of grease to be inserted between the shaft and seal ,not totally water lubed, plus not repairable when it leaks a lot it’s shot .⛵️⚓️
