I am working on mounting a Beta 14
engine to my
Cape Dory 27, and am curious what the preferred method is for building up an
engine bed. I have posted a picture of the
current engine compartment. Additionally, I have posted a picture of someone who has successfully built up the engine
bed for a beta 14 in a CD 27 as well.
On top of horizontal stringers, there is a
steel plate, which was tapped to hold the previous engine mounts. Would the best method be to cut out the
steel plate, clean up
wood underneath and check for
rot, then
epoxy a new piece of hardwood on top and
fiberglass it all together?
